Under the generaldirection of the Laboratory Director and the Medical Director, oversees and directs Laboratory Departments in the development and coordination of activities related to proficiency testing, point of care testing, quality control, quality assurance, regulatory agency compliance, selection and implementation of new testing methods and instrumentation.
JOB DUTIES:
Assists the Lab Director in the daily administration of the laboratory.
May assume responsibility in the absence of the Lab Director.
Supervises all Laboratory staff (MT, MLT, Phlebotomy, Secretaries) Prepares implements and evaluates laboratory quality assurance and improvement plans.
Oversees and coordinates proficiency testing (PT) for each laboratory department.
Consults with and advises regarding PT issues and remedial action steps.
Ensures compliance of laboratory departments with licensing and regulatory agencies; maintains current knowledge of regulatory standards and changes.
Reviews individual laboratory department manuals, advises of necessary modifications and follows up to ensure compliance.
Coordinates the point of care testing program; writes protocols and procedures and ensures regulatory compliance of the program.
Provides consultation to medical and nursing staff as a laboratory resource professional.
Provides operational and technical direction to laboratory departments to ensure proper instrument function; coordinates workflow and ensures that adequate inventory control systems are in place.
Designs, implements and monitors laboratory quality control programs (QC).
Oversees, directs and assists laboratory departments in provision of adequate procedures to ensure quality results and appropriate problem resolution.
Compiles cost data and assists Laboratory Director with rate structure and current economic reality.
Assists Laboratory Director in evaluation of new testing methods and instrumentation.
Involves appropriate laboratory departments in selection and implementation of procedures/instruments to assure quality results, smooth workflow and cost effectiveness.
Recognizes situations that need to be brought to the attention of the Laboratory Medical Director or the Laboratory Director.
Adheres to and implements policies regarding the safe handling and disposal of specimens, chemicals, biohazard materials and sharps ensuring compliance through laboratory departments and the Laboratory Director.
Attends and participates in laboratory management meetings.
Provides in-service education to laboratory and hospital personnel as requested.
Advises and assists laboratory departments in preparing QA studies to investigate problems, trends and other opportunities for improvement; with remediation and follow-up studies.
Participates in relevant hospital committees and interdepartmental teams and meetings.
Maintains documentation of laboratory participation.
Demonstrates proper phone etiquette and quality customer service in the performance of daily duties and throughout the workplace.
Performs laboratory testing and procedures as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORK/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field Medical Technologist, ASCP or equivalent Minimum 5 years' experience in a clinical laboratory or an advanced degree.
Effective written and oral communication, computer, and organizational skills required.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
